Open day in Fraserburgh for new low cost home ownership scheme targeted at first-time buyers

First-time buyers, particularly tenants and people on housing waiting lists, are being invited to an open day at Aberdeenshire Housing Partnership's new development at Westshore Gardens, Fraserburgh on Thursday, 13 May 2010 (1pm - 7pm).

Westshore Gardens is the first housing development to be built in Fraserburgh under the Scottish Government's New Supply Shared Equity scheme.  One and two bedroom semi-detached houses are being offered for sale. The scheme allows applicants to buy an equity share of between 51% and 80% of their new home. No rent is paid on the remaining equity share which is held by Aberdeenshire Housing Partnership.  The development is being marketed by Grampian Housing Association on behalf of Aberdeenshire Housing Partnership.

John Martin, director of finance and corporate services at AHP said: "With a 51% equity share of a two bedroom house costing £55,718 the scheme has been successful in helping people who might think home ownership is beyond their reach to get their foot on the property ladder. It is proving highly popular and we would encourage first time buyers to come along to the event to view the properties and get further details about how to apply."

Information will also be available on the day for Langstane Housing Association's development at Murison Place, Fraserburgh which is nearing completion and where a further 13 houses, a mix of two and three bedroom properties, are being offered for sale on a shared equity basis.

By bringing affordable housing to the area, these new housing developments are making an important contribution to the wider regeneration of Fraserburgh.
